Le 28 juin, nous serons de nouveau à Istanbul

Le 28 juin 2024, se tien­dra à Istan­bul une énième audience de l’i­nique pro­cès enta­mé il y a 26 ans contre Pınar Selek, écri­vaine et socio­logue fran­co-turque, accu­sée fal­la­cieu­se­ment de ter­ro­risme et acquit­tée déjà 4 fois.

Car toutes les fois qu’une Cour de jus­tice a exa­mi­né le fond du dos­sier, elle a conclu qu’il était vide de preuves. Pour­tant, début 2023, Pınar Selek est de nou­veau mise en accu­sa­tion sans qu’aucune nou­velle pièce n’ait été ver­sée à son dos­sier. Deux audi­tions ‑le 31 mars et le 29 sep­tembre- n’ont abou­ti à rien, sinon au ren­voi à une nou­velle audience à laquelle Pinar Selek est à nou­veau priée de se rendre en per­sonne. Chose impos­sible et impen­sable, puisqu’un man­dat d’arrêt, avec empri­son­ne­ment immé­diat, est lan­cé à son encontre depuis jan­vier 2023. Plus encore, début 2024, la Tur­quie a adres­sé à la France une demande d’extradition en confir­mant le man­dat d’arrêt inter­na­tio­nal. Enfer­mer Pınar Selek à per­pé­tui­té pour ses tra­vaux de recherches, ses œuvres lit­té­raires et ses prises de posi­tion en faveur des mino­ri­tés kurdes et armé­niennes, des mou­ve­ments fémi­nistes, des mino­ri­tés LGBTQIA+ reste visi­ble­ment tou­jours l’ob­ses­sion d’un cer­tain pou­voir turc.

Nous, citoyen·nes européen·nes, militant·es paci­fistes et fémi­nistes, élu·es fran­çais, scien­ti­fiques, pro­fes­sion­nelles du droit, édi­trices, artistes, nous tien­drons une fois encore aux côtés de Pınar Selek, en Tur­quie, en Europe et dans le monde, contes­tant cette inqua­li­fiable tor­ture judi­ciaire.  Une nou­velle fois nous deman­dons au gou­ver­ne­ment fran­çais de réaf­fir­mer son sou­tien à cette uni­ver­si­taire et citoyenne fran­çaise, comme de refu­ser bien sûr la scan­da­leuse demande d’extradition. Nous nous adres­sons aus­si aux élu·es européen·nes : il en va de la défense de la liber­té aca­dé­mique et de la liber­té d’ex­pres­sion, droits fon­da­men­taux sans les­quels aucune démo­cra­tie ne peut exis­ter.

Invi­tée le 16 mars à Genève par le Fes­ti­val du film et forum inter­na­tio­nal sur les droits humains, Ange­la Davis, mili­tante et phi­lo­sophe afro-amé­ri­caine, s’est jointe à notre cam­pagne de sou­tien à Pınar Selek en appe­lant les militant·es fémi­nistes et anti­ra­cistes du monde entier à se rendre en nombre à l’audience qui aura lieu à Istan­bul le 28 juin pro­chain.

Nous y serons, en grand nombre, au sein d’une délé­ga­tion inter­na­tio­nale, com­po­sée d’élu·es, d’avocat·es, d’universitaires et de chercheur·euses, d’artistes et de militant·es pour que Pınar Selek soit décla­rée défi­ni­ti­ve­ment inno­cente à 100% et qu’elle retrouve enfin sa pleine liber­té de mou­ve­ment, d’action et de tra­vail en Tur­quie, en France et par­tout où la mène­ront ses recherches et ses actions.

On 28 June, we will be in Istan­bul again

On 28 June 2024, an ump­teenth hea­ring will be held in Istan­bul in the ini­qui­tous trial which began 26 years ago against Pınar Selek, the Fran­co-Tur­kish wri­ter and socio­lo­gist, fal­se­ly accu­sed of ter­ro­rism and alrea­dy acquit­ted 4 times.

This is because eve­ry time a court of jus­tice has exa­mi­ned the merits of the case, it has conclu­ded that it was devoid of evi­dence. Howe­ver, at the begin­ning of 2023, Pınar Selek was once again indic­ted without any new evi­dence having been added to her case. Two hea­rings — on 31 March and 29 Sep­tem­ber — had pro­du­ced nothing, other than a refer­ral to a new hea­ring, to which Pinar Selek was again asked to attend in per­son. This is impos­sible and unthin­kable, since an arrest war­rant, with imme­diate impri­son­ment, has been issued for her since Janua­ry 2023.

At the begin­ning of 2024, Tur­key sent France an extra­di­tion request confir­ming the inter­na­tio­nal arrest war­rant. This would lock up Pınar Selek for life. Uni­que­ly based on her research work, her lite­ra­ry works and her stance in favour of the Kur­dish and Arme­nian mino­ri­ties, femi­nist move­ments and LGBTQIA+ mino­ri­ties. All of which clear­ly still remains the obses­sion of a cer­tain Tur­kish power.

We  as Euro­pean citi­zens, peace and femi­nist acti­vists, French elec­ted repre­sen­ta­tives, scien­tists, legal pro­fes­sio­nals, publi­shers and artists, will once again stand along­side Pınar Selek in Tur­key, Europe and the rest of the world, chal­len­ging this uns­pea­kable judi­cial tor­ture.  Once again, we call on the French govern­ment to reaf­firm its sup­port for this French aca­de­mic and citi­zen, and of course to refuse the outra­geous extra­di­tion request. We are also appea­ling to the elec­ted repre­sen­ta­tives of the Euro­pean Par­lia­ment : what is at stake is the defence of aca­de­mic free­dom and free­dom of expres­sion, fun­da­men­tal rights without which no demo­cra­cy can exist.

Ange­la Davis, a North Ame­ri­can acti­vist and phi­lo­so­pher was Invi­ted to Gene­va on 16 March by the Inter­na­tio­nal Film Fes­ti­val and Forum on Human Rights. She has joi­ned our cam­pai­gn in sup­port of Pınar Selek by cal­ling on femi­nist and anti-racist acti­vists from all over the world to turn out in large num­bers for the hea­ring to be held in Istan­bul on 28 June.
