Le 28 juin 2024, se tiendra à Istanbul une énième audience de l’inique procès entamé il y a 26 ans contre Pınar Selek, écrivaine et sociologue franco-turque, accusée fallacieusement de terrorisme et acquittée déjà 4 fois.
Car toutes les fois qu’une Cour de justice a examiné le fond du dossier, elle a conclu qu’il était vide de preuves. Pourtant, début 2023, Pınar Selek est de nouveau mise en accusation sans qu’aucune nouvelle pièce n’ait été versée à son dossier. Deux auditions -le 31 mars et le 29 septembre- n’ont abouti à rien, sinon au renvoi à une nouvelle audience à laquelle Pinar Selek est à nouveau priée de se rendre en personne. Chose impossible et impensable, puisqu’un mandat d’arrêt, avec emprisonnement immédiat, est lancé à son encontre depuis janvier 2023. Plus encore, début 2024, la Turquie a adressé à la France une demande d’extradition en confirmant le mandat d’arrêt international. Enfermer Pınar Selek à perpétuité pour ses travaux de recherches, ses œuvres littéraires et ses prises de position en faveur des minorités kurdes et arméniennes, des mouvements féministes, des minorités LGBTQIA+ reste visiblement toujours l’obsession d’un certain pouvoir turc.
Nous, citoyen·nes européen·nes, militant·es pacifistes et féministes, élu·es français, scientifiques, professionnelles du droit, éditrices, artistes, nous tiendrons une fois encore aux côtés de Pınar Selek, en Turquie, en Europe et dans le monde, contestant cette inqualifiable torture judiciaire. Une nouvelle fois nous demandons au gouvernement français de réaffirmer son soutien à cette universitaire et citoyenne française, comme de refuser bien sûr la scandaleuse demande d’extradition. Nous nous adressons aussi aux élu·es européen·nes : il en va de la défense de la liberté académique et de la liberté d’expression, droits fondamentaux sans lesquels aucune démocratie ne peut exister.
Invitée le 16 mars à Genève par le Festival du film et forum international sur les droits humains, Angela Davis, militante et philosophe afro-américaine, s’est jointe à notre campagne de soutien à Pınar Selek en appelant les militant·es féministes et antiracistes du monde entier à se rendre en nombre à l’audience qui aura lieu à Istanbul le 28 juin prochain.
Nous y serons, en grand nombre, au sein d’une délégation internationale, composée d’élu·es, d’avocat·es, d’universitaires et de chercheur·euses, d’artistes et de militant·es pour que Pınar Selek soit déclarée définitivement innocente à 100% et qu’elle retrouve enfin sa pleine liberté de mouvement, d’action et de travail en Turquie, en France et partout où la mèneront ses recherches et ses actions.

On 28 June, we will be in Istanbul again
On 28 June 2024, an umpteenth hearing will be held in Istanbul in the iniquitous trial which began 26 years ago against Pınar Selek, the Franco-Turkish writer and sociologist, falsely accused of terrorism and already acquitted 4 times.
This is because every time a court of justice has examined the merits of the case, it has concluded that it was devoid of evidence. However, at the beginning of 2023, Pınar Selek was once again indicted without any new evidence having been added to her case. Two hearings – on 31 March and 29 September – had produced nothing, other than a referral to a new hearing, to which Pinar Selek was again asked to attend in person. This is impossible and unthinkable, since an arrest warrant, with immediate imprisonment, has been issued for her since January 2023.
At the beginning of 2024, Turkey sent France an extradition request confirming the international arrest warrant. This would lock up Pınar Selek for life. Uniquely based on her research work, her literary works and her stance in favour of the Kurdish and Armenian minorities, feminist movements and LGBTQIA+ minorities. All of which clearly still remains the obsession of a certain Turkish power.
We as European citizens, peace and feminist activists, French elected representatives, scientists, legal professionals, publishers and artists, will once again stand alongside Pınar Selek in Turkey, Europe and the rest of the world, challenging this unspeakable judicial torture. Once again, we call on the French government to reaffirm its support for this French academic and citizen, and of course to refuse the outrageous extradition request. We are also appealing to the elected representatives of the European Parliament: what is at stake is the defence of academic freedom and freedom of expression, fundamental rights without which no democracy can exist.
Angela Davis, a North American activist and philosopher was Invited to Geneva on 16 March by the International Film Festival and Forum on Human Rights. She has joined our campaign in support of Pınar Selek by calling on feminist and anti-racist activists from all over the world to turn out in large numbers for the hearing to be held in Istanbul on 28 June.
